What are some legitimate home based businesses

Is there any way that you can be 100 % certain of giving a correct answer today to the question: What are some Legitimate home based businesses. At one time there was no problem answering that question. Legitimate home based businesses were those operated by reputable people, people with integrity that had proven themselves to be honest, people that you knew, people that your father, your mother, your uncles and in fact your whole family knew.

The world was a small place then. People lived, got educated, worked and slept in their small village or neighborhood. Nobody asked the question what are some legitimate home based businesses. Not because every business at that time was legitimate but those that were not legitimate were easy to spot. They operated outside the law and most often in the worst part of town. Everyone knew who they were and what they were doing.

Unlike now, everyone knew everyone so if you wanted to know what are some Legitimate home based businesses, you only had to ask. If that did not produce an answer that you were comfortable with you could walk to that business, look at their products or services and ask questions directly to the owner.

Today it is quite different. The word population is exploding; Cities are turning into mega cities which in some cases are becoming bigger than some countries. People no longer live in neighborhoods that are familiar to them. They no longer know their neighbors. They no longer know what businesses are being conducted around them. As the world population exploded the number and types of business have exploded making it difficult to answer the question what are some legitimate home based businesses.

The world is shrinking, advanced telecommunications, transportation and the internet means that in business borders are disappearing. People, information and ideas flow around the world at amazing speed. What is legitimate in one country may not be in another. So asking the question what are some Legitimate home based businesses may prompt some very different and conflicting answers.

Technology has now placed the powered of computers in the hands of many. Some of these are of questionable characters and are out to separate you from your money. One only has to go on the internet and do some research to see how many scam type home based businesses there are. So be careful when you are asking what are some legitimate home based businesses. As the economy worsens each day, thousands more people are looking for business opportunity options. Many will take a part time job to extra security, while the business minded person will go online and check out creating a secondary source of income. The concept of how to make money from home is very popular these days. With the economy as it is, just about everyone is thinking of ways they can survive. How to make money from home is a great way to add to the familys financial situation.

There are some pitfalls to working from home that you should be aware of. Having your own home based business does take discipline. There are many things that come up at home to get you side tracked and easy to neglect what needs to be done. Thinking something will just take a minute can be a way to kid yourself if not careful. When you have children in the home they enjoy your presence so much they will want many things they have done without, but now that your there they want to be able to do them. I have been working at home since retiring and I enjoy it very much. I do have my own business and I can work at my own schedule so that I can have time for visiting my grandchildren, substituting in the office at my church, and do many other things I enjoy. I set the time I need to give to my working on the computer and then enjoy the time I have free doing the other things I like to do. I love the freedom I have by having learned how to make money from home.

The entrepreneurial desire in the U.S. is alive and well. Over 99% of employers in the U.S. are small businesses, and there are more than 15.6 million self employed (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2005). We are a nation built on home business it is just now they can add learning to make money online.

Over the last 25+ years in one way or another, Ive been mentoring people that are going into a home based business. There are some common mistakes Ive observed over the years. This is true of brick and morter businesses and make money online business. One is working Capital and expectations.

Each person looking for a home business to make money and wanting to begin commonly underestimate what they need to not only start their business or perhaps you are already in a home based business, and underestimated what you would need.

Capitalization is a key factor.

It is important to take pen to paper and list all the start up cost, then monthly business maintenance costs, having a savings account that you plan on NOT using so it will be there when you do need it.

BTW What income are you or your family going to live on while you build your expected business, yes the one with the income opportunity that will provide what you desire for your goals?

Since I work primarily with home business people who want to make money online, I will approach in this short article some common things people overlook.

One is Computer Expenses.

Purchase of 2 computers, one at least must be a lap top that can multi task easily.

What programs do you need? Who will handle repair and maintain your PCs. Expect problems, its a part of reality of a eBiz. Prepare that into your budget as well as equipment.

Youll need a good laser printer (much cheaper to operate than the color printers with ink cartridges)

Plan for phone systems, answering service, fax, 1-800 service and cell phone. These need to be for the business only, not for the home and business or you will have IRS challenges.

The amount of money needed to successfully launch a new enterprise is commonly underestimated, largely because a business and/or product launch takes longer and cost more than anticipated. One should estimate how much capital will be needed for the start-up effort, and then perhaps double it.

The Second Issue

Set yourself up as a REAL business, get a license and I suggest even a home based business become an LLC.

Once that is done open a checking account and get any credit or credit cards in the Biz LLC name. That protects your family assets and business as well.

A wise entrepreneur will plan ahead for such activities and be prepared with factoring the unknown. I always suggest being on the safe side, preparing to not take any profits out of your business for two years.

Now I hear YIKES, no way that is too long to wait. Well, it is true that many times people can get into a excellent home biz to make money online with a good team and a business plan well under way, and make that income opportunity a reality in a few months. But, keep a clear head and get your business on solid ground, with a substantial amount in savings BEFORE you start spending your new found capital.
